Entry Requirements - Foundation
(Pre-University Access Courses)

Course entry requirements to study in the UK vary according to the course and institution. For many foundation or access courses you need qualifications that prove you will be able to study successfully. Many international qualifications meet entrance requirements to various foundation courses. UniAdmission will assist you in establishing the approximate UK equivalent of your qualifications.

Foundation courses are commonly designed for students wishing to progress to a course in the same discipline at a higher level. Entry requirements depend on the subject to be studied. Some require only basic literacy skills, without a formal qualification in the subject to be studied. Mathematics is commonly available in this way. Other subjects may have stricter entry requirements.

In visual arts, especially fine art, a good A level pass or equivalent in the same subject is required. Foundation courses will often include English tuition, but are not usually suitable for complete beginners. Many Universities and colleges run University Foundation Programmes designed for international students who are not yet ready to begin degree study in the UK.

These programmes usually last a full academic year and include English language classes alongside study of the subject area the student wishes to study at degree level. Entrance requirements vary, but qualifications at about A level standard, and some ability in English are usually needed.

If the process seems overwhelming, remember: there are usually just FOUR STEPS to accomplish:

1 GCSE GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education), Equivalent to TWA, JIHYA. Five passes at grades A-C, grades depending on the course you wish to study.
2 English Language Institutions will set their own English language requirements for all courses. Usual requirements are: IELTS at grade 5, TOEFL (paper-based) 350.
3 References Approach two school referees and ask each one to write a full reference on official letterhead of your school.
4 Application Complete our standard on-line application form

The UniAdmission Foundation ON-LINE Application can simplify the application process. It lets you apply online to some of the best foundation and pre-university programs in Britain, checks for accuracy and completeness. The on-line form is standard and is acceptable to all our Partner Universities.

Important Note: It is important to ensure that you send all the above documents, as the delay caused in having to seek any missing documents from you might adversely delay and prejudice your application. If your GCSE and/or English Language verification are to be obtained, any offer made to you will be conditional.
