Entry
Requirements
General English Language Courses
There is no specific entry requirement to
get into any English language course. There are many English
language tests, and a far greater number of different courses
available. Courses are aimed at people with different levels
of competency in English. For beginners' English language courses,
you do not need any English qualifications, or previous knowledge
of English. For advanced courses, you need some competency,
or possibly a first qualification.
English Language For Academic
Purpose
Universities often include English language
tuition in Foundation and Access courses, and many offer pre-sessional
programmes for students who need to improve their English language
skills. These courses are not usually suitable for beginners
in English. You should contact UniAdmission
to check what level of ability or qualification they may require.
English
Language Entry Requirements for Students Applying For Academic
Studies
International students whose first language
is not English are required to have an appropriate grade/score
in an approved examination in English language before they can
register on an academic programme. Exceptions are sometimes
made for students who have had their education in the medium
of English.
Below is a list of the recognised examinations
and the minimum grades/scores required for immediate entry
onto a number of academic programmes at many of our Partner
Universities. In general grades/scores are valid for a maximum
period of two years prior to the date of registration.

Some of our Partner Universities' own examinations
may be accepted. Please check with us when applying. We recommend
students to take the IELTS test, if possible, as it is designed
specifically to assess a person's ability to use English for
academic purposes.
Taking an Examination
but not Reaching the Required Level?
You have two options.
(1) continue to study English in your own
country and take an appropriate English language examination.
There are usually rules about when you can retake a test - in
the case of IELTS, for example, you must wait three months between
tests.
(2) take an English Language and Academic
Preparation Course at one of our Partner Universities English
Language Centres. If you take one of these courses you do not
usually have to take another externally validated English examination
as these Centres' own assessment procedures are accepted by
the Universities' Schools and Faculties. Thus, if you satisfactorily
complete a course of the recommended length at one of our Partner
Universities, you may then register on your academic course.
Courses
Leading to a Qualifiaction in English Teaching
To enter a course leading to a qualification
in English teaching, you need to demonstrate competency in English,
and possibly have experience in teaching. You are usually tested
so that your competency in English can be established.
To enter a degree or postgraduate programme
leading to a qualification in teaching English, you need to
meet the normal degree entrance requirements.
The UniAdmission
English Language ON-LINE Application can simplify the application
process. It lets you apply online to some of the best English
language programs in Britain, checks for accuracy and completeness.
The on-line form is standard and is acceptable to all our Partner
Universities and English Language Schools.
